It’s been a whirlwind week with Hannah and Michelle out of town at a conference for work and Robin living the single life while Tai and Charlie are traveling. We’re looking forward to taking a breath this weekend! Here are the And Then We Tried obsessions for the week.

Michelle Obama and Roxane Gay INBOUND Conference

This week Hannah and I were at the INBOUND conference and Michelle Obama spoke directly to us on Wednesday morning. Okay, she spoke to a crowd of about 10,000, but we were sitting pretty close! She is such an inspiration and seeing her (interviewed by Roxane Gay!) in person was amazing. She talked about how the hard times taught her grace and how women everywhere need to start to speak up and make sure our voices are heard. We’ll have a full INBOUND conference recap up for you Monday, but it’s safe to say I’m obsessed.

Elastic Waist Pants

So according to doctors, I have mono, and over the weekend a full body rash showed up. When I was trying to plan what I was going to pack for the conference, I realized I needed looser pants that wouldn’t be rubbing up against my gross rash. I’m hooked on elastic waist pants now, so I’ll be wearing them exclusively for the rest of the fall. I grabbed a pair of $7 clearance pants from H&M that look like pajamas, a plaid pair of trousers with elastic at the back of the waist, and a pull-on pinstripe pair from the Who What Wear collection at Target. Here are some similar options if you also want to look pulled together but really be wearing elastic waist pants.

Embroidered Heels

For a wedding in a few weeks I’ll be wearing a red dress I already own but that doesn’t mean I can spruce it up with new shoes, right? Since the dress is plain red, I’ve been eyeing embroidered heels like these. Just have to pick one and pull the trigger…which are your favorite?

Stan Smith Sneakers

stan smith white sneakers obsession

I mentioned in our fall fashion wishlist that I was looking into getting a pair of Stan Smith Adidas sneakers. I finally pulled the trigger and I love them! I got this navy pair (as opposed to the original green) and have worn them a few days a week since I got them. They’re pretty comfortable, although they’re a little tight in the pinky toe region. When I initially bought them, I bought both a women’s and men’s pair. They looked the same online but the men’s pair was $15 cheaper. There was no difference in person, so I stuck with the men’s pair and saved some money!

Bob Seger

Bob Seger concert

I’m heading to my third Bob Seger concert this weekend with my friend Alisa and her parents. It’s become a bit of a tradition now that we all go see him when he comes to Columbus. Looking forward to seeing Bob rock his headband and dad shoes!

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Let us know what you’re obsessed with this week in the comments and if you see anything in the wild that you think we’d be obsessed with, be sure to tag us @andthenwetried or use #ATWTobsessions

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Gift Guide: Indoorsy

Struggling to find gift ideas for your favorite people? We’ve got you covered with our And Then We Tried gift guide! First up: your friends and family who are decidedly indoorsy. While we can’t claim to be experts on much, things to buy people who like to stay inside is definitely in our wheelhouse.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
