Okay, so I’m a little late on this kitchen progress update, like 1.5 years late, oops. Around November 2016, I started removing the gross green and white plaid vinyl flooring and to create DIY hardwood floors on the plywood subfloor that was underneath. To be totally honest, I started ripping the vinyl off a while before that and just lived with weird half floors for a while. Classic move. Keep reading to learn how to make your own DIY hardwood floors on your plywood subfloor.

Tiling a Backsplash with Tile Mat: A SimpleMat Review
One last kitchen post before we never have to talk about this project again. Since this was our first attempt at tiling, I wanted to share our process for tiling a backsplash with tile mat and give you our SimpleMat review. There were pros and cons for using tile mat instead of traditional mortar, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
Keep ReadingOne Room Challenge Week Six: DIY Kitchen Makeover Reveal
Pop the pink wine, fam! The DIY kitchen makeover reveal is finally here! If you remember where we left off last week, a LOT of things still needed to happen. The lower boxes needed to be primed and painted, the lower door hardware needed to be installed (including jury-rigging a few of the latches), the island needed to be assembled, a light needed to be installed, and we needed to install the backsplash. Just a few things! But, we did it!
Keep ReadingOne Room Challenge Week Five: Cleaning Original Hinges and Installing New Hardware
TBH guys, Week Five has me a little crazed! Turns out when you only work on a project of this size like three days a week for a month, the last week is pretty hectic! COOL! Today’s update is all about cleaning original hinges and installing our new knobs, pulls, and latches. Let’s start with the activity that led to my biggest misstep of the project: cleaning original hinges.
Keep ReadingOne Room Challenge Week Four: How to Paint Cabinets
Today I want to walk you through the most time-consuming part of this kitchen refresh: painting the cabinets. In fact, I’m not even done with it, that’s how much time it takes! It’s week three of my kitchen One Room Challenge and I am deep in the land of prepping, priming, and painting cabinets. Keep ReadingOne Room Challenge Week Two: Making Choices
Well, I can definitively say there’s nothing like posting before pictures and committing publicly to a tight timeline to light a fire under me! This past week saw some great progress on my kitchen One Room Challenge project and I think we’ve finally nailed down most of the decisions. Let’s get into the details.

Keep ReadingFeather Finish Concrete Over Tile Counters
This is one of those projects that had such a HUGE impact that I wish I had done it right when I moved in. I lived with these gross, one-inch white tile countertops for over a year before I got around to attempting a DIY feather finish concrete counter. I truly don’t know why anyone would choose to have mosaic …
