We tried, you guys. We really did. But this week, we’re shopping again. See what we’ve added to cart and what hobby Michelle is picking up in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Kid Crafts for Adults, Latch Hook Weaving

DIY Latch Hook Weaving
Image via HonestlyWTF

I came across a DIY on HonestlyWTF for a latch hook wall hanging and it was such a blast from the past. I used to love making latch hook crafts with those kits when I was younger but they were mostly butterflies and flowers. I love this grown-up version of latch hook and immediately bought supplies to make my own. The mesh backing and latch hooks arrive today and I’ll be hitting the craft store for some yarn this weekend. Did anyone like watching Trudy the Nudie come together on InstaStories? Should I track the grown-up latch hook project there too? Let me know in the comments.

High Rise Black Skinny Jeans

Grana Hyperflex Jeans

After Urban Outfitters let me and the whole world down with the latest iteration of their Super High Rise Twig jeans, I’ve been on the hunt for a new go-to black skinny jeans. I tried several of the ones I linked to in our Fall Fashion Wishlist, but haven’t found a winner. This week I ordered a pair of Hyperflex jeans from Grana and I have high hopes. They don’t have info about the rise on their site, so I hope it reaches my belly button. I have some sweatpants, a t-shirt, and some undies from Grana and everything has been great so far. You can save 10% on your first order using this link. I’ll be sure to let you all know how the jeans work out. Any suggestions for super high, super black skinny jeans?

Target’s Universal Thread

target universal thread

Last week Target released a new line of women’s wear called Universal Thread. I basically spent the entire morning scrolling through all of the new products and they are pretty good. So good in fact it had me wondering why I was so drawn to all of the pieces. It finally dawned on me, it’s because they are all replicas of my second favorite store, Madewell. Having mixed feelings about Target’s incessant stealing of other’s designs, be on the lookout for a round-up of my favorite pieces from the Universal Thread collection with their Madewell (or other great designer) alternatives and when it’s right to splurge vs. save.

New Favorite Life Hack

olive oil life hack

In a particularly intense eyebrow waxing session this week, I got a little extra wax on some hairs I really needed to keep. And like a grown up, I didn’t freak out and instead googled the answer. Turns out baby oil or olive oil (which is what I used) can easily remove the unwanted wax. I can say I tried it out and it actually worked! I was so impressed both with the olive oil and with myself for not totally losing it thinking I was going to have half an eyebrow. #adult

The Italian Cobbler

You guys may have seen this on InstaStories a week or so ago, but I recently had my first pair of shoes cobbled and it was AMAZING. My black Madewell ankle boots (no longer sold but I found similar pairs here, here, here, here, here, and here) had a tear between the sole and the leather at the toe, so I took them into The Italian Cobbler for some TLC. Not only did they fix the tear, the replaced the soles of both boots and gave them a good shine. I don’t know why I’ve never gotten anything cobbled before, but I now have a pile of things that could stand a little fix or two that will be getting dropped off at The Italian Cobbler.

Now Listening: The Night Circus

the night circus audiobook obsessions

Now that I’m on my audiobook kick, I’ve checked out a bunch of audiobooks from the library. I’m currently listening to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, which I read a few years ago and remembered enough to know I liked it but not enough for it to be too repetitive. The best part? It’s narrated by Jim Dale AKA the narrator for the Harry Potter audiobooks. His voice is so soothing and, when paired with the hella descriptive writing, I feel like I’m getting lulled into a trance with each listen.

Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
