Obsessions: 11.17.17

Has anyone else started their Christmas shopping yet? We’re trying to cross some gifts off our list, and are maybe picking some things up for ourselves too. Here’s what we’re thinking about in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions.

WP Engine

GoDaddy to WP Engine hosting

This one is less of a pure joy-based obsession and more of a crazed-lunatic obsession. I migrated our site hosting from GoDaddy to WP Engine this week and their support team was super helpful and answered all of my questions patiently. I followed their instructions but had to look up more information about the DNS / nameserver part and also had to move our email from GoDaddy to G Suite. Would anyone be interested in a how to move from GoDaddy to WP Engine post? Also, if you are thinking of switching hosting, WP Engine has the first month free right now with the code fall600 (up to $600), so this is a good time to play around with it.

Candle Update

piping rock fragrance oils

After my last batch of candles turned out a little weak, I ordered a ton more fragrance oils and essential oils from Piping Rock and they arrived yesterday. (Shipping was hella cheap and reasonably speedy) They smell AMAZING!! My faves so far are: Amber, TobaccoGreen Tea, and Musk. I think they are going to make a huge difference in the candle scents. If you are looking to make some candles, you can get $5 off orders under $40, and $10 off orders over $40 using my referral link.

Target’s A New Day Trench Coat

a new day trench coat

In my usual fashion, I ordered a whole bunch of stuff from Target to try on and return what didn’t work. Anyone else play that fun game? Snagged this coat from their A New Day collection. I am so pleasantly surprised by the quality and fit. It’s on sale for $35 right now so I didn’t know exactly what to expect. All the answers: 1. Tan is slightly darker in person which I like better. 2. Also comes in black. V. cute. 3. Got a medium to allow for sweaters and sweatshirts underneath. 4. Has nice navy lining inside. 5. Slightly water resistant but you wouldn’t want to find yourself in a thunderstorm.

Debt Monster Update

Today’s my birthday and as a gift to myself, I’m paying off the credit card I mentioned in this post. It feels so good to knock that task off my list of adult things to do!

Glossier You

glossier you fragrance

Another week, another Glossier product to be obsessed with. Glossier recently released their first fragrance and, as a certified Glossier fangirl, I was excited to try it out. Imagine my surprise then when a sample was included with my latest order from them! Of course, I’m obsessed with it. Here’s how Glossier describes the scent:

Mostly it smells like you: that familiar human-y note that makes up the body of what you’re smelling. Creamy, sparkling, clean, warm. That’s You.

Basically, it smells like a person that smells good. Guys, I promise I don’t work for Glossier, they just keep making things that I want. If you want to try it out for yourself, they’re still sending out samples of You with every order. Use my referral link for 10% off your order!

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Gift Guide: Indoorsy

Struggling to find gift ideas for your favorite people? We’ve got you covered with our And Then We Tried gift guide! First up: your friends and family who are decidedly indoorsy. While we can’t claim to be experts on much, things to buy people who like to stay inside is definitely in our wheelhouse.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
