We’re mere hours away from kicking off Memorial Day weekend aka THE SUMMER. We couldn’t be more excited to have a three-day weekend and an extra 24 hours to obsess over even more things. See what made our list this week!

And Then We Tried LipSenseLipSense

Alright, so I’m usually pretty skeptical of the things that teachers always seem to be shilling on Facebook (no offense, get that side hustle), but I tried on this lipstick at a party over the weekend and I was impressed. Also, have you seen anyone who is NOT a teacher selling stuff on Facebook? Pretty sure it’s all teachers. Anyways, on to the LipSense. You have to shake up the lipstick like a nail polish, and then apply three layers of the color followed by a topcoat. It is essentially lip nail polish and it is supposed to last for 18 hours. The application will take some getting used to because you aren’t supposed to get perfect coverage in one swipe, you have to build it in the three swipes. But this lasted through several hours of drinking rosé and eating snacks, and generally being late-night sloppy. Have any of you tried LipSense? Should I buy some? Let me know what you think in the comments. If you want to buy it, Lindsey is selling it on Facebook here.

Daybed Plans

Rifle Paper Co. Fabric.com fabric swatches

I really want a daybed on my back deck so that I can take a nap in the sun. I was originally going to build one out of wood, similar to Hannah’s porch swing, but then I would have to figure out a color that would relate to the wood table I already have on the deck. Now I’m looking at metal daybed frames and twin mattresses and figuring out what type of fabric I want to use. This lead me to find a TON of Rifle Paper Co. fabrics on fabric.com. They are all so pretty! But I’m not sure if I should limit the whimsy to the pillows or cover the whole mattress in ponies. What do you think? Full pony? Pillow ponies? If I go with pillow ponies, I’ll probably use this Premier Prints Tribal Vintage Indigo shibori-style print on the mattress.

Mommy Dead and Dearest

I first heard about the Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blancharde case in this BuzzFeed article, and it was such an interesting story about Munchausen’s by proxy and (duh) true crime. My Favorite Murder also covers the story in episode 47. The latest installment of this crazy case is HBO’s Mommy Dead and Dearest, which I finally watched this week. It includes an on-camera interview with Gypsy Rose (!) as well as some interesting home video footage. Gypsy Rose’s interview is super enlightening as to her childhood, but at the same time, is she a reliable narrator? Can we trust her? What really happened between her and her mom over the years? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Now Listening

Not sure if it’s lingering Mexico vibes or what, but Despacito – Remix is my JAM right now. Don’t be alarmed if I try to sing this at you loudly in mangled Spanish sometime soon.

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
