Obsessions 08.25.17

It started to feel like fall this week in Cleveland and before we bust out the sweaters, Hannah has found some new laundry tips. See what else we’re loving in this week’s And Then We Tried obsessions.

Ikea Kitchen Planner

I love planning my future kitchen even though I won’t be able to afford it for 7–12 years. I have had some life-size Illustrator renderings of the floor plan set up for the past year and this week I mapped it out in Ikea’s kitchen planner.

For reference, here is my current kitchen floor plan :

And my flat floor plan:

And the Ikea view from the back deck:

I’m loving seeing the floor plan in 3D, it is really helping me understand how much space there will really be in the room. I’d love to keep an island, since it is so nice for hanging out around, but I still can’t tell if there will be enough room to open all the drawers and walk around it. The issue is that without an island, the space in the middle feels way too big. Good thing I have 7–12 years to make this decision! Let me know in the comments if you have any kitchen layout suggestions.

Cheap Amazon Espadrilles

and then we tried amazon cheap espadrilles

I bought these espadrilles on a whim from Amazon for $19 and let me tell you I’m impressed. They come in lots of colors—I have light blue—and they are Prime-able with free returns. Doesn’t get much better than that. Plus they pack down so thin and are easy to stash as an extra pair in your suitcase.

Redefining Realness by Janet Mock has been on my list for a while now and with some upcoming travel for the weekend, I finally have the time to get started on it. Mock, as a trans activist, has been praised for offering and education in trans issues and I hope to walk away more knowledgeable than before.

Glossier’s Wowder Powder

I’m a bit of a Glossier fangirl (although I prefer brand loyalist), so when I heard about their newest offering I knew it was only a matter of time before I caved and bought it. I just bought the Wowder duo (of course I bought the duo) in Light/Medium yesterday, so I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet, but I’m very excited for it to arrive! Have any of you tried it out yet? Any thoughts?

How to Take Care of Your Clothes

Michelle and I have been friends since the sixth grade and the only thing that has come close to tearing our friendship to shreds was the discovery of how very particular I am about doing my laundry. When we lived together this was our largest point of contention. I follow tag instructions, hang dry more than half of my wardrobe, and have a VERY specific sorting system.

Anyways, the suggestions in this article from T Magazine about how to take care of your clothes will be making their way into my laundry routine I think. Some of the tips are a little intense (lol to brushing your shoes before putting them away or even putting them away for that matter), but a lot of them are good to know!

This has been another week of And Then We Tried Obsessions, where we share whatever we’re obsessed with each week. Attaching a wood fence to a chainlink fence

As I mentioned in my last fence/gate update post, I helped Erika attach a wood fence to the chainlink fence in her backyard. The process was similar to when I converted a chainlink fence to a wood fence, except in this case, we left the chainlink fence intact. This method is a good option if you want to add a little more privacy to your yard or camouflage a chainlink fence while you wait to save up for a completely new fence.

Gift Guide: Indoorsy

Struggling to find gift ideas for your favorite people? We’ve got you covered with our And Then We Tried gift guide! First up: your friends and family who are decidedly indoorsy. While we can’t claim to be experts on much, things to buy people who like to stay inside is definitely in our wheelhouse.

Obsessions: 10.19.18

You wanna know what we have been decidedly NOT obsessed with in the past month? The blog. Womp womp. We’re hopping back in this week, but we’ll be posting a bit more sporadically for a while. Here’s hoping you all loved getting caught up on Michelle’s driveway gate plans yesterday. See what else we’ve been obsessed with in this week’s And Then We Tried Obsessions.

Fence Updates and Two-Panel Wood Driveway Gate Plans

Hellooooo, I’m thinking about fences again! You all had the pleasure of following along as I moved and rebuilt the fence in my backyard and then converted a chainlink fence into a wood fence along my driveway, and now it’s finally time to build that driveway gate. Of course, I can’t just build a driveway gate and leave it at that, I’ve also decided to cap the entire fence to cover up the dogear pickets and give everything a cleaner and more finished look. HOORAY!
